CHI TURNING. GRAY AND TBS&TESEO WITH BALDNESS The Danger is Averted by Using -it b . VIGOR "Nearly forty yars ko, after some weeks of sickness, my liair turned grav ami began falling out so rapidly that I was threatened with immediate baldness. Heaving Ayer's Hair Vigor highly spoken of, 1 commenced using this picpara- tion, and was so well satisfied with the result that I have never tried any other kind of dressing. It stop ped the hair from falling out, stimu lated a new growth rf hair, and kept " the scalp free from dandruff. Only an occasional application is ix.iv r.eeded to keep my hair of gcod. natural color. I never hesitate to recommend any of Ayer's medieir.es to my friends." Mrs. II. M. II aigiit, Avoea, Neb. St rRKPAKFD l:Y m. J. C. AVER & CO., LOWELL. PMSS., U. S. A. AVer's Sarsaparilla Hemoves Jiinzles. Aid Rendered by the Sal vat ton Army. Christmas was a time of bard work by the Salvation Army in The Dalles. The members of the corps announced that they would receive contributiona for the potir an'1 attend to the distribution of tbe clothing and other articles donated. The response was most liberal. .Money to the amount of $21.60 was given to the 'Officers for distribution and about $30 -worth of clothing, boots and shoes, "which were donated by our merchants ' Four sacks of potatoes, four oi flour and a good quantity of groceries, candy, nuts, toys and tinware, all new and many ar tides of clothing partly worn were re - ceived and distributed. Besides the persons thus aided, nine families were -.iven roasts and fish by butchers. Were at not for these donations these families wouid have had no meat for their Christ- urns dinner. The money was mostly ex panded for clothes, though a mattress also was bought for a poor old lady that had been sleeping on a few ragged quilts, In all, about fifteen families were aided, one ot the families consisting of a widow and six children, the youngest a babe of six weeks. Captain and Mrs. Potarf and the soldiers of the corps wish to thank -the people of The Dalles for so gener- ouly aiding them in their work of char ity, and in a note to Tun Chbonicle say Dear friends, who eo liberally gave of your bounty, if you could have seen the j and gladness brought into sad lives. and th-s little child's face brighten at the Bight 01 toys, etc, you would feel as w di., who worked eo hard to send the riht things to the right places more - ttian repaid. May the dear All-father, who gives to each the glad Christmas of the soul, reward you many fold. The Salvation Army have done a great deal of good at this Christmas time, and it is doubtful if any other agency could have done the work 89 well. The Salva tion Army is being looked upon more and more as one of the greatest factors in uplifting the fallen and has already made the world better because of the army's existence. Should Be at The Dalles. ine aistiiiery at urants win be in operation by January 15th, or at least that is the present calculation of its own ers. The distilling company -has met with various misfortunes In its career, having suffered disasters by flood and fire besides contending with the bard times, which every one has had to meet The flood of 1894 ruined the plant at Grants and necessitated the expenditure of a large amount of money in re-baild ing. Tbe set back given bv the flood proved too heavy a shock for the com pany to rally from without first shutting down and re-organising. Now, we nn derstand, the concern has been put on a sound basis and expects to do a large and lucrative business in the future. The sews will be pleasant to tbe people of Grants and Sherman county, as the distillery has been a gieat factor in dis posing of the products of that section of country. Besides the making of alcohol this concern carried on other pursuits, each as the making of flour, feeding stock for sale, etc. A mistake was made when this plant was' placed at Grants instead of Tbe Dalles, fot .with due re- pect to that town the advantages of Tbe Dalles for manufacturing purposes are far greater. With abundant water power, wood and competitive- transportation, no city in the state has greater reason to think-itself well suited to become a manufacturing centre than The Dalles The Gate City of Eastern Oregon." Ill'" of all cases of consumption can, if taken in the earlier stages of the disease, be cured. This may seem like a bold assertion to those familiar only with the means gener ally in use for its treatment ; as, nasty cod liver oil and its filthy emulsions, extract of malt, whiskey, different preparations of hypopnospnir.es ana suca uk ytittzutivc. Although by many believed to be incura-' ble, there is the evidence of hundreds of living- witnesses to the fact that, in all its earlier stages, consumption is a curable disease. Not every case, but a large per centage of cases, and we believe, fully 9$ per cent, are cured by Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery, even after the disease has progressed so far as to induce repeated bleedings from the lungs, severe lingering cough with copious expectoration (includ ing tubercular matter), great loss of flesh and extreme emaciation and weakness. Do you doubt that hundreds of such cases reported to us as cured by " Golden Med ical Discovery " were genuine cases of that dread and fatal disease ? You need not take our word for it. They have, in nearly every instance, been so pronounced by the beot and most experienced home physicians, who have no interest whatever in mis representing them, and who were often strongly prejudiced and advised against a trial of 'Golden Medical Discovery," but who have been forced to confess that it surpasses, in curative power over this fatal malady, all other medicines with which they are acquainted. Nasty cod liver oil and its filthy "emulsions" and mixtures, had been tried in nearly all these cases and had either utterly failed to bene fit, or had only seemed to benefit a little for a short time. Extract of malt, whiskey, and various preparations of the hypophos phites had also been faithfully tried m vain. The photographs of a large number of those cured of consumption, bronchitis, lingering coughs, asthma, chronic nasal catarrh and kindred maladies, have been skillfully reproduced in a book of 160 pages which will be mailed to you, on re ceipt of address and six cents m stamps. You can then write those cured and learn their experience. Address for Book, World's Dispensary Medical Association, Buffalo, N.. Y.
